I am trying to opearate Leaf A/C compressor. It supposedly have 3 pole pairs and is wired for 96S battery, so my Ampera battery is ideal.
I am using my Volt inverter with Lebowski brain set to low amperage of some 15A.
First i tried to run motor with one Ebike controler and 50V. Compressor ran fine,
Then i connected Volt inverter and main battery. To get a reference for motor parameters i measured motor with inductance and resistance meter. I got good results. However when i tried to run motor FOC autotest i got strange readings.
Are you having any success with the Leaf A/C compressor? Have you opened the Leaf A/C compressor inverter?

I have succesfuly run Leaf AC cpmoressor with one chineese 48V controler. Also i had some sucess with Lebowski controller, but due to low current resolution motor had problems with starting. I designed controler for third power stage inside Volt inverter. I just got the boards and i am at assembly. It should run better since it has 50A current sensors with higher resolution for small drive. I hope to run compressor with this soon.

Do you know Nissan’s specs for the A/C compressor – voltage, current, rpm, pressure…? Other than it being a brushless DC motor using PWM, I haven’t been able to find much information about the compressor.

AC compressor seems like it is 3phase 6 pole BLDC motor. I am not sure if it is IPM like the Leaf motor. I was able to run it directly with 48V BLDC Ebike controler. No sensors.
Lebowski controller is still in the making. I had some success with the large motor controller, but its current sensors have much less resolution in lower amp range. I am now finishing my car and need every second for mechanical work and cable routing. I think later in august i will have m ore time to play with AC compressor. I see much will depend on fine acceleration control.
If you have more success by then let me know please.
tnx

If you check the picture you will see my FOC measurement. 4000uH and 500mOhm. I think it is somewhat false due to low sensor resolution.. Manual measurement shows 9.22mH across two phases which gives some 4600uH. Not so bad… Resistance i get 4.3ohm cross two phases, which means single phase should have 2.15Ohm. Hm… this one is wildly off then.

You’re correct, the Leaf A/C compressor is 3-phases BLDC. Manually measuring phase winding resistance should be much lower – something like 0.7 ohms. Which is why I’m wondering about Nissan’s voltage and current demands – especially under load. Hi-side gauge pressure is +300psi.
